چکیده

We consider a di usive interface surface tension model under compressible ow. The equation of interest is the Cahn-Hilliard or Allen-Cahn equation with advection by a non-divergence free velocity eld. We prove that both model problems are well-posed. We are especially interested in the behavior of solutions with respect to droplet breakup phenomena. Numerical simulations of 1,2 and 3D all illustrate that the Cahn-Hilliard model is much more e ective for droplet breakup. Using asymptotic methods we correctly predict the breakup condition for the Cahn-Hilliard model. Moreover, we prove that the Allen-Cahn model will not break up under certain circumstances due to a maximum principle.

Modeling the Surface Tension and the Interface of Ten Selected Liquid Mixtures: Correlation, Prediction, and the Influence of Using Partial Molar Volume

This work investigates the modeling of the surface tension and the interface of liquid mixtures. Nine binary liquid mixtures of (DMSO+alcohols), (2-Propanol+2,2,4-trimethylpentane), (Tetrahydrofuran+2-Propanol), (Tetrahydrofuran+2,2,4-trimethylpentane), and (ethano+glycerol) are considered. Additionally, one ternary liquid mixture of (Tetrahydrofuran+2-Propanol+2,2,4-trimethylpenta...

Cusp formation for evolving bubbles in 2-D Stokes ow: the e ect of variable surface tension

Analytical and numerical methods are applied to investigate the e ect of variable surface tension, induced by the presence of surfactant, on a bubble evolving in 2-D Stokes ow. The evolution is driven by an extensional ow from a four roller mill. Of particular interest is the possible spontaneous occurrence of a cusp singularity on the bubble surface. Using complex variable methods, exact solut...

An Experimental Investigation of Water Effects on Asphaltene Surface Behavior through Interfacial Tension Measurements

As a physiochemical property, asphaltenes are known to be one the most surface active compounds in crude oil. Due to such property, their behavior is most probably influenced by fluid-fluid interactions at the contact surface (interface). Potentially and naturally, in most cases, water is in contact with crude oil and is co-produced with it as well. Considering that asphaltene molecules are pol...

نگاشت همدیس در طرح‌های انگشتی سافمن- تیلور

We studied the growth of viscous fingers as a Laplacian growth by conformal mapping. Viscous fingers grow due to Saffman-Taylor instability in the interface between two fluids, when a less viscous fluid pushes a more viscous fluid. As there was an interest in the rectangular Hele-Shaw cell, we solved the Laplacian equation with appropriate boundary conditions by means of conformal mapping tech...

Propagation in a Hele - Shaw Flow under the Buoyancy E ects

We consider the propagation of chemical fronts in a Hele-Shaw ow where the front is assumed to propagate with a curvature dependent velocity. The motivation is to model some recent experiments that employ aqueous autocatalytic chemical reactions in such a device. The density change across the front in such experiments is quite small so the Boussinesq approximation can be used, and the ow eld ge...
